You Deserve Better County Government

Duane J. Leise - Candidate for Weld County Commissioner District 2

Duane will work to create
county government that

1.Truly Respects the Citizens.
2. Stands up for Homeowners' Property Rights as much as for the Big Money Interests'.
3. Is Ethical and Fair

Duane will put people before money.

ISSUES

  1. Better land use decisions As a county commissioner I will speak up for homeowners interests. A prime example of bad land use decisions is the Martin Marietta asphalt and ready mix cement plant near Johnstown.
  2. Diversify the tax base which will produce jobs.Promote new industries such as Industrial Hemp. Or build out and work with private industry to build a Fiber Optic Internet Backbone for the county.
  3. Civility and mutual respect on the Board of County Commissioners The current state of affairs makes it necessary to say this.
  4. Real county wide comprehensive land use plan The county in cooperation with the municipalities should be working towards a real plan. Then adhere to it. The predictability of a land use plan would attract better investment and development. A program for the county to provide some money and work with conservation agencies to buy up development rights of on agricultural property to allow the farmers to continue farming while not being hurt by the comprehensive land use plan.
  5. Protect our water by using the state legislated "1041 powers" to better control our water. There should also be county money set aside to buy water rights from land owners before they sell them outside the county. Water rights are too important to allow them to be taken by townships outside of Weld County.
  6. The home rule charter should be changed to limit campaign contributions to those set for state wide elected officials, which is $1,150. Presently there are no limits. My opponent accepted a $10,000 donation to his campaign from a major land owner. Do you think this will affect my opponents decisions concerning this land owner's business before the board of county commissioners?

The Towns in District 2 - - Part of Dacono, - Frederick, - Firestone, - Mead, - A very small part of Longmont, - Part of Berthood,, - Johnstown, - Milliken and - West Greeley. And there are several unincorporated developments as well.

County Government - There are 3 districts in Weld County each of which elects one commissioner. There are 2 commissioners that are elected by the entire county. That makes 5 county commissioners in all. The county is made up of 32 incorporated municipalities. The most important tasks of the Board of County Commissioners are deciding and authorizing land use permits and overseeing the budget which includes taxation and spending. Their decisions most directly impact the day to day lives of most citizens by any governmental body. These are important positions that citizens should choose wisely.
